AND THE WINNERS ARE...
June Smith
Somehow, given the state of our festering,
sequestering nation, led by a president re-elected despite a four-year record
of failure, and the politically powerful leftist Hollywood entertainment
industry, it should come as no surprise that Michelle Obama made a “surprise”
appearance at the Oscars, "live" via satellite just before midnight
on Sunday night, flanked by beaming members of the armed services.
Introduced by three-time Oscar winner Jack
Nicholson, the glittering First Lady, “wearing Naeem Khan” as they say,
welcomed everyone to the White House and said she was “so honored to introduce the nominees for Best
Picture and to help celebrate the movies that lift our spirits, broaden our
minds and transport us to places we have never imagined."

Praising the "upifting qualities” of the
nine nominees for Best Picture, FLOTUS, broadcasting from the Diplomatic Room
of the White House, said “These lessons apply to all of us no matter who we are
or what we look like or where we come from or who we love, but they are
especially important for our young people…I want to thank all of you here
tonight for being part of that vitally important work.”
These movies “took us back in time and all
around the world. They made us laugh. They made us weep and made us grip our
armrests just a little tighter. They taught us that love can endure against all
odds and transform our minds in the most surprising ways. And they reminded us
that we can overcome any obstacle if we dig deep enough and fight hard enough
and find the courage to believe in ourselves,” she added.
Hard to say which of the nine nominated
movies had the most “uplifting qualities”:
“Lincoln”, the Civil War saga;
“Amour”, an old-age end-of-life love
story;
“Argo”, the Iran hostage story;
“Life of Pi”, a shipwreck story;
“Silver Linings Playbook”, a mental health
romance;
“Zero Dark Thirty”, the killing of Osama bin
Laden;
and from “The Title Says It All” department:
-“Les Miserables” (billed as a
“musical”);
-“Beasts of the Southern Wild”; and
-“Django Unchained”.
The winners? “Argo” and the Obama
Administration for another “first”.
The losers? We, the people, who believe in
the Constitution, hold the conservative views of personal responsibility,
limited government, free markets, etc. , and are gripping our armrests a little
tighter every day.
